YORK, PA - The York College women's tennis team snapped a seven-game losing skid with a 6-3 non-conference win over Southern Virginia on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans improve to 2-10 overall while the Knights fall to 7-12.
The Green and White were down early in the match as Southern Virginia captured two of the three doubles matches. The Spartan tandem of Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Megan Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) combined to earn an 8-4 second doubles victory.
In singles play, Dea Vlahos (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) got the Spartans rolling with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 first singles win over Kirsten Laurence. After the Knights earned a second singles win, Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) breezed past Micah Roberts 6-1, 6-0 in the third singles contest. Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) downed Anna Evans 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth singles match. Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) earned a 6-1, 6-3 fifth singles win while Jones concluded the singles play with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Katie Durrant to secure the win for York.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday morning when they host Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The contest is slated for an 11:00 am start.
