Women's Tennis Picks Up 6-3 Win over Goucher

YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team picked up their first win of 2013 with a 6-3 win over Goucher College on Tuesday afternoon in York.

The Spartans improve to 1-1 overall while the Gophers fall to 0-1.

The Gophers earned a win in first doubles but York bounced back with victories in the second and third doubles flights. The Spartan duo of Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Megan Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) recorded a tight 8-6 win in the second doubles match. The combo of Nikki Olson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Lauren Valles (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) rolled to an 8-2 third doubles win as the Spartans took a 2-1 lead into singles play.

The Spartans received singles wins from Price, freshman Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll), junior Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley), and freshman Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion). Price recorded a 6-3, 6-2 second singles win. Naill improved to 2-0 in singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 third singles win. Skutnik notched a 6-4, 6-4 fifth singles win while Krout picked up a solid 6-1, 6-3 sixth singles win.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday morning when they travel to Washington, DC to face Catholic University. The match is slated for an 11:00 am start.
