YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team snapped a five match losing streak with a solid 7-2 non-conference victory over Southern Virginia University on Saturday in York. The Spartans improve to 3-7 overall while the Knights fall to 3-6 for the campaign.
The Spartans rolled out to an early lead as York captured all three doubles points. Dea Vlahos (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Megan McCullin (New Windsor, Md./Westminster Senior) combined to post an 8-6 first doubles win. Nikki Olson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) tallied an 8-2 win in the second doubles match while Lauren Valles (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) teamed up to notch an 8-3 win in the third doubles match.
The Knights got on the board with a first singles win but York captured the second, third, fourth and fifth singles matches to secure the match. McCullin earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at second singles while Olson rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 win in the third singles contest. Price posted a solid 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth singles match followed by Valles' impressive 6-1, 6-0 win in the fifth singles contest.
The Spartans are slated to return to action on Monday afternoon when they host St. Mary's College in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
