Women's Tennis Earns 8-1 Win over Lions
MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College women's tennis team notched an 8-1 non-conference win over Penn State Harrisburg on Friday afternoon in Middletown, Pa. The Spartans improve to 2-2 overall while the Lions are now 1-4.
York swept the three doubles matches starting with Dea Vlahos (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Megan McCullin (New Windsor, Md./Westminster Senior) as they outlasted Gabrielle LeGendre and Theodora Avramidis 9-7 in the first doubles match. Nikki Olsen (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Caroll) teamed up to post an 8-2 second doubles win while Lauren Valles (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) combined to notch an 8-4 third doubles win.
In singles play, the Lions captured a first singles match but York swept the remaining five matches to earn the win. McCullin earned a 6-4, 6-0 second singles win for York. Olsen posted a 6-3, 6-2 third singles win and she was followed by Price who earned a 6-0, 6-1 fourth singles win.
Valles and Skutnik closed out the win with victories in the fifth and sixth singles matches respectively. Valles won 6-3,6-2 while Skutnik's victory came by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The Spartans close out their fall campaign on Saturday when they host Goucher College in a non-conference match starting at 10:30 am.
