YORK, Pa. – The York College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 Capital Athletic Conference triumph Monday afternoon over visiting Stevenson University on a sunny but windy Monday afternoon in York. The victory improves the Spartans' 2011-2012 mark to 5-7 (2-2 CAC) while the Mustangs fall to 4-5 (1-4 CAC).
Two of York's seven points came via doubles wins as the Green and White garnered the second and third slots. At second doubles, Megan McCullin and Emily Price improved their record to 3-0 on the season with an 8-1 triumph. Arcondia Vlahos and Nicole Olson grabbed the point in the third spot with an 8-5 victory for their fourth win together this year.
In singles play, senior Katelyn Acker captured the number one victory with a straight-set 6-0, 6-3 triumph. Fellow senior Samantha Brenner collected a tight 2-6, 7-5, 11-9 three-set victory for her fifth win of the campaign.
York snagged the fourth, fifth, and sixth matches in straight sets. Vlahos won the fourth singles match via a 7-5, 6-2 result while Olson won at five, 6-2, 6-4. Price, a Spartan rookie, improves to 3-1 on the season courtesy of a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround as they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) tomorrow, Tuesday, April 10, for a CAC match against the Seahawks. Match time is slated for 3:30 pm.
