York Improves to 8-4 with Saturday Wins over Wesley and Frostburg
YORK, Pa. – The York College women's tennis team added two Capital Athletic Conference wins to their season ledger on Saturday, besting visiting Wesley 5-0 and Frostburg State 7-2. With the pair of victories, the Spartans improve to 8-4 on the season including 3-2 in CAC action.
The Green and White began the day against Wesley (1-5, 0-5 CAC) and needed only five matches to secure the triumph. York swept the three doubles matches before winning the top two singles tilts.
Number one doubles duo Katelyn Acker and Sarah Wargo secured an 8-3 win at the top the doubles lineup. Samantha Brenner and Megan McCullin collected a doubles win of their own with an 8-6 result in the second slot while Stephanie Nelson and Nicole Olson grabbed their second win of the season as a partnership courtesy of an 8-2 triumph in third doubles.
In singles, Wargo snagged an 8-2 win at first singles while Acker took an 8-3 result in the second slot.
The Spartans would follow that CAC win with another later in the day as they went on to defeat Frostburg (3-6, 2-3 CAC) by a 7-2 result.
Doubles play saw Acker and Wargo again take the number one slot as they won their fifth match together this season, as this win came courtesy of an 8-3 win. For a third straight time, Nelson and Olson combined for the third doubles triumph this time by way of an 8-3 result.
Wargo and Acker both recorded singles wins as Wargo won the first slot 8-1 while Acker took second singles by another 8-1 result. Acker's win gives the junior her team-leading eighth win of the 2010-2011 campaign.
Fourth singles went to McCullin as she posted a close 8-7 (7-0) victory. Rookie Arcondia Vlahos captured the fifth slot with an 8-2 win while Nelson won the point at sixth singles by way of an 8-2 result.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday, April 10, as they host Catholic in a non-conference match. York's final regular season home meet of the season is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
