SALISBURY, Md. – The York College women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, falling 9-0 to Salisbury in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt. With the defeat, the Spartans fall to 4-1 on the year, including a 0-1 in the CAC, while the Sea Gulls improve to 3-0 on the season.
Despite the loss, the Spartans did take a trio of singles matches to three sets. At second singles, junior Katelyn Acker picked up a first set triumph with a 7-6 (7-6) victory over Elaina Iosue. However, Iosue responded over the final two sets with 6-2, 6-1 results to capture the win.
In the fourth slot, sophomore Megan McCullin fell in the first set by a 6-2 margin to Jessica Babyak but came back to knot the score at 1-1 with a 6-3 win in the second. That decisive third set however went Salisbury's way as Babyak nabbed a 6-4 triumph.
Nicole Olson had a similar match in the sixth spot against Amy Matonak. After dropping the first set 6-3, Olson picked up the second with a 6-4 win. However, once again that third set went to Salisbury as Matonak won 6-3.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday, March 20, when they host CAC foe Mary Washington. Start time in York is slated for 11:00 am.
