YORK, PA – The York College women's swimming team concluded their 2013-14 home schedule with a pair of wins on Friday night in York. The Spartans defeated Penn State Altoona 116-59 and Gallaudet 112-83. Gallaudet edged Altoona 93-92 in the tri-meet's other result.
The Spartans improve to 5-7 overall while Gallaudet is 4-7 and Altoona falls to 2-8 overall.
York had a fantastic night with seven first place finishes, six seconds and six thirds.
The 200 medley relay squad of Megan Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck), Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson), Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Mark's), and Casenya Stone (Annandale, Va./The New School of Northern Virginia) rolled to a six second win in the night's opening event as they recorded a time of 2:02.97.
Buglino recorded victories in the 200 free and the 500 free. She completed the 200 free in a time of 2:07.38 as she edged Stone for the victory. Buglino's time in the 500 was 5:38.30 as she finished just over 14 seconds in front of teammate Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa./Dover) who finished second.
Murphy was the winner in the 1000 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 11:56.48. Greenwald placed second in the event, completing the race in a time of 12:06.52.
Allera won the 200 IM with a time of 2:34.82 while she also finished second in the 100 fly. Pike was the winner in the 100 fly as she touched the wall in a time of 1:07.02, a mere .74 seconds in front of Allera while Madison Tonkay (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) placed third with a time of 1:10.44.
Greenwald's win came in the 100 free as she nicked teammate Ashley McManus (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) for the win. Greenwald completed the race in a time of 58.72 while McManus was just .59 seconds back of her teammate. Taylor Michielini (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) was third in the race with a time of 1:00.28.
Tonkay was the Spartans' other second place finisher as she was the runner up in the 100 back stroke as she touched the wall in a time of 1:09.84.
The Spartans conclude their regular season on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Ursinus College to face the Bears in a non-conference meet. The meet begins at 1:00 pm in Collegeville, Pa.
