More Records Fall As Season Ends With Third Day of Championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The York College women's swim team took to the water for the final day of Capital Athletic Conference Championships Sunday. The Green and White entered the day in fourth place with 276 points.

The final day got started with the 200 yard backstroke. The event saw two Spartans qualify for the consolation heat. Megan Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J/Colts Neck) finished in 11th with a time of 2:20.46. Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md/Northwest) followed in 13th with a time of 2:22.13.

The 100 yard freestyle saw a trio of Green and White finals qualifiers. Senior Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa/PA Cyber) took fifth in the preliminary race with a time of 55.10, a time that breaks Heather MacLennan's 2010 school record of 55.32. Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa/Dover) and Casenya Stone (Annandale, Va/The New School of Northern Virginia) finished seventh and eighth, with respective times of 55.82 and 55.89. Anna Schuster (Reistertown, Md/Franklin) qualified for consolations with a time of 57.23.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, junior Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) qualified for consolations with a time of 2:38.29.

Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J/Jefferson) continued her successful weekend by qualifying for the 200 yard butterfly finals with a time of 2:19.72. The consolation heat in the event will see Meg Walker (New Castle, Del./Pencader Charter) and Meg Dailey (New Windsor, N.Y/Cornwall Central) as they recorded times of 2:34.87 and 2:39.21, respectively.

The nightcap started with the 1650 yard freestyle event. The Green and White sent four swimmer in the water for the event with junior Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) leading the quartet in sixth place with a time of 18:34.45.

The consolation of the 200 yard backstroke saw Greenwald take second place (10th overall) with a 2:20.07. Murphy followed in the 13th overall position with a 2:21.11.

Ross took to the water for the 100 yard freestyle finals having already set the school record earlier in the day. She would set the record once again by shaving 0.1 second off of her time recording a 55.00 in the finals, a time that would earn her a sixth place finish. Teammates Stone and Dacheux would follow Ross by finishing seventh and eighth with times of 55.40 and 55.82, respectively.

In the consolation heat of the 200 yard breaststroke event, Pike earned a second place finish (10th overall) with a 2:37.45 finish.

The lone finalist in the 200 yard butterfly, Buglino, finished in seventh place by touching the wall in 2:18.63. The consolation heat consisted of a pair of Spartans. Walker finished 13th overall with a time of 2:33.75, as Dailey finished 16th with a 2:39.96 finishing time.

The women capped off the season in grand fashion as the relay team of Ross, Dacheux, Buglino, and Stone set a school record for the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:42.67. The broken record of 3:43.56 was set in 2010, and one Ross helped set.

The Green and White take a fourth place finish in this year's Conference Championship with 401 points. The women turn to next season when the likes of Hinkle, Buglino, and Dacheux look to lead the 15 swimmers set to return to the lineup for the 2013-2014 campaign.
