2013 CAC Championship Preview

YORK, Pa. – Swimmers throughout the Capital Athletic Conference will be converging on The Aquatics Center at St. Mary's College in St. Mary's City, Md. on Friday for the start of the 2013 CAC Swimming Championships. The Championships, which are being hosted once again by St. Mary's College will begin on Friday and continue through Sunday.

The defending champions are the Mary Washington Eagles, who have been victorious 22 seasons in a row.

Last season, the Spartans finished in fourth place with 366 points. The finish was one of the best the women have seen in the past decade. One of the top performers was senior Chelsea Ross (Paolio, Pa./PA Cyber). She earned an exceptional second place finish in the 200 freestyle, with a quality time of 1:57.86. Ross also broke the school record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.69 and finished the race in fourth.

Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md./Sherwood) also had a strong weekend. She earned a seventh place finished in the 1,650 with an 18:39.65 effort. Hinkle also set a personal-record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:20.39 and a 10th place finish.

As a freshman, Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa./Dover) registered eighth in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing in 25.72.

Yet again, this year's championships will prove to be tough. Mary Washington, Marymount and St. Mary's are always extremely talented. Every year they all show up with exceptionally strong swimmers.

"It is going to be really tough finish in the top three," said head coach Erin Kurtz. "But that has been our goal and we have been working to achieve it all season."

Kurtz believes that her women will have strong performances throughout the weekend. According to Kurtz, Ross will most likely score the highest for the Spartans and has the chance to finish strong. Other strong competitors for the Green and White will be Hinkle, Dacheux, Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson) and Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md./Northwest).
