Glassboro, NJ - The York College women's swimming team fell to Rowan University Monday evening by a score of 149-106.
The Spartans started off the meet with second place in the 200 yard medley relay. The Spartans' team started with senior Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa/PA Cyber), followed by sophomore Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa/Dover), junior Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Mark's), and anchored by sophomore Casenya Stone (Annandale, Va./The New School of Northern Virginia). The quartet finished in a time of 2:01.68.
In the next event, the 1,000 yard freestyle, the Green and White finished 2-3-4. Junior Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md/Sherwood) led the Spartan trio with her second place 11:50.98. Freshman Maddie Tonkay (Landisville, Pa/Hempfield) finished in third with a 12:21.11, as Stone followed in fourth.
In the 200 yard freestyle contest, the Spartans posted two top three finishes as Ross came in second with a 2:05.11 and sophomore Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md/Northwest) rounded out the top three with a 2:07.93.
Juniors Megan Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck) and Anna Schuster (Reistertown, Md./Franklin) posted top three finishes in the 100 yard backstroke event with times of 1:09:42 and 1:10.57, respectively.
In the 100 yard breaststroke race, Dacheux and Pike put in top three efforts with times of 1:13.97 and 1:18.19, respectively.
Sophomore Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, NJ/Jefferson) posted a second place 2:29.45 in the 200 yard butterfly event.
Ross and Dacheux paired for a 2-3 finish in the 200 yard freestyle contest with respective times of 57.25 and 58.59.
Buglino posted the ladies only top three finish in the 200 yard breaststroke event with a time of 2:40.18. She then posted the ladies only first place finish of the evening with a 2:24.96 in the 200 yard IM.
Dacheux, Ross, Greenwald, and Buglino teamed up for a second place relay finish in 1:48.91 to conclude the meet for the Spartans.
The loss drops the Spartans to 5-8 on the season. The Green and White look to finish the season strong Saturday January 19, 2013 when they travel to Frostburg State for a 1:00 start.
