Spartan Victory on Senior Night
YORK, Pa. – The York College women's swimming team added two more wins to their record on Friday evening in a home tri-meet against PSU-Altoona and Gallaudet. The Spartans beat PSU-Altoona 65-28 and Gallaudet 63-31. In the third head-to-head matchup of the evening PSU-Altoona won over Gallaudet 54-40.
Friday evening was recognized and senior night. York's four seniors Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa./PA Cyber), Meg Dailey (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall Central), Mandy Oldham (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) and Katelyn Romm (Chester, Md./Kent Island) were honored at the beginning of the meet. With the two wins tonight, the Spartans record now improves to 4-6 overall.
The Green and White came out on fire from the start. York took first place in the first four events of the evening. Megan Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck), Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson), Casenya Stone (Annandale, Va./The New School Of Northern Virginia), and Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md./Northwest) kicked the off night with a victory in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:29.79. The team of Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Mark's), Danielle Marino (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth), Meg Walker (New Castle, Del./Pencader Charter), and Dana Taylor (Andover, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) combined for a time of 5:0063, good for third place.
Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and Laurel France (Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) kicked off the individual events with a 1, 2 finish in the 1000 yard freestyle event. Hinkle completed her 40 laps in 11:40.04.
Ross had a solid senior night as she accumulated two first place finishes. In the 200 yard freestyle she touched the wall in 2:04.19. She followed up with a 58.42 in the 100 freestyle.
Romm placed twice as she finished third in the 50 yard freestyle event and second in the 100 yard freestyle. Her time in the 50 free was a 28.32. Her 100 yard freestyle was completed in 1:02.49
Dailey put in a good effort for the Green and White as she placed second in both the 100 yard butterfly and 500 yard freestyle events with times of 1:11.86 and 6:11.96, respectively.
Finishing out the senior women, Oldham participated in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:18.37.
Stone followed her relay victory with a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle by sprinting to a 25.93 time.
Greenwald, who anchored the first place relay team, followed that effort with a first in the 500 yard freestyle by pacing a 5:41.25 finish.
Buglino followed last week's fantastic performance with a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly event with a time of 1:08.05.
The two wins improve the Green and White to an overall record of 4-6 on the season. The Spartans travel to Elizabethtown tomorrow December 8, 2012 to take on the Blue Jays at 1:00.
