Spartans Swim Past Goucher and Salisbury
YORK, Pa. – The York College women's swim team earned their first two wins of the year on Friday night as they downed Salisbury and Goucher in a tri-meet in York. The Spartans defeated Salisbury 106-98 and Goucher 127-75. The Sea Gulls downed Goucher 134-68 in the third head-to-head match of the evening.
The Spartans came out on fire and earned first place finishes in the first four events. Getting things started was the 200 yard medley relay team made up of Chelsea Ross (Paoli,Pa./PA Cyber), Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Mark's), Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa./Dover) and Casenya Stone (Annandale, Va./The New School Of Northern Virginia). The relay finished in 2:01.43 and secured a first place finish.
Next up, Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson) had a phenomenal race in the 1000 yard freestyle. She was able to gain an early lead and hang on for a first place finish in 11:37.13. Earning herself a second place finish with a time of 11:53.38 was Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md./Sherwood).
The Green and White continued their success into the 200 yard freestyle. Ross and Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, Md./Northwest) finished in first and second place with times of 2:03.70 and 2:06.75.
Dacheux swam to the Spartans fourth consecutive first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle. Sprinting strong, Dachuex earned first place with a time of 26.00.
In the 100 yard freestyle Stone secured a second place finish with a time of 57.23, while Greenwald finished close behind in third with a time of 58.54.
Ross just missed first place in the 100 yard backstroke. Her time of 1:07.47 earned herself a second place finish.
Buglino also swam well in the 500 yard freestyle. She recorded a second place finish in 5:42.61. Maddie Tonkay (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) also swam well and finished in third with a time of 5:52.43.
Dacheux then capped off a solid night with a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke swimming a 1:12.97.
The Spartans finished the night off strong with another first place victory. The 200 yard freestyle relay made up of Greenwald, Stone, Hinkle and Buglino earned the first place finish with a time of 1:49.59.
York returns to action on Friday, December 7th in a home meet against Gallaudet and PSU-Altoona at 6:00 pm.
