YORK, PA – The York College women's swim team opened up their home schedule with a tough 107-98 Capital Athletic Conference loss to the Marymount University Saints on Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans fall to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the CAC while the Saints improve to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Despite the loss, the Spartans featured a number of good performances. The Spartans started the meet off strong winning in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.82. The relay consisted of Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa./PA Cyber), Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson), Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Mark's), and Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa./Dover).
Junior Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md./Sherwood) had a good swim in the 1000 freestyle. She won the race with a time of 11:32.58. Hinkle also swam well in the 500 free as she finished second with a time of 5:40.49.
Ross turned in a nice meet, winning the 200 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 2:02.39. Along with that win, she also came in third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 58.04.
In the 50 free, the Spartans had Dacheux touch the wall at 26.85 for second place. The 200 yard IM was highlighted by Buglino who won the race finishing at 2:23.71 while her teammate Anna Schuster (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) came in third with a time of 2:29.27.
The Spartans proved to be strong in the 100 yard backstroke recording a second and third place finishes. The second place finish was turned in by Megan Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck) who went a 50.27 while Schuster turned in a 53.04 for third place.
York also had a second and third place finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke as Buglino came in second while Pike came in third. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the York women came in second.
The Green and White returns to action on Saturday, November 10 when they host St. Mary's and Dickinson in a tri-meet. The meet is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
