Spartans Get by PSU-Altoona and Gallaudet

YORK, Pa. – The York College women's swim team claimed victories over Penn State-Altoona and Gallaudet University Friday night by scores of 122-39 and 127-70, respectively. The Spartans now improve their 2011-2012 mark to 5-6 on the season.

The Spartan women opened the meet by dominating the 400 medley relay taking first, second, and third. That first-place spot however went to Kathy Murphy, Lindsey Buglino, Kelsie Pike, and Courtney Dacheux with a time of 4:27.00.

The individual events began with distance in the 1,000 yard freestyle where Meg Dailey, Megan Murphy, and Laurel France placed one, two, three. Dailey's race finished in 12:17.34, followed up with a 12:29.09 from Murphy, and a 13:36.53 from France.

In the next event, the 200 freestyle, it was Murphy, Buglino, and Katelyn Romm who completed the trifecta. Murphy led the way with a 2:12.23, with Buglino closely behind finishing in 2:13.83. Romm secured third-place points with a 2:16.47.

In the 50 freestyle sprint, the Green and White had the top two finishers yet again, as this time being Pike and Anna Schuster went one-two. Pike's first place performance came with a time of 27.49, immediately followed by Schuster's 27.74.

The first place marks kept coming for the Spartans as Dacheux and Michaela Guild claimed top spots in the 200 individual medley. The youngster Dacheux led the way with a 2:24.30 with Guild one second behind her at 2:25.31.

Pike and Dailey were at it again as they teamed up with Meg Walker for another one-two-three finish in the 100 butterfly. Pike's came in at 1:06.94, while Dailey and Walker recorded times of 1:11.73 and 1:12.42, respectively.

Finally for the Spartans individually, Sammy Greenwald and Megan Shannon claimed first in their respective heats, finishing one-two overall in the 100 freestyle. Greenwald's 58.47 was good for first place points, while Shannon's 1:00.03 proved good for second overall.

The Green and White look to continue their success on Saturday, December 10, when they take on Elizabethtown College at 1:00 pm in the York College Natatorium.
