YORK, Pa. - The York College women's swimming team fell to Washington & Jefferson 157-97 Saturday afternoon in York. The defeat drops the Spartans to 1-6 on the year.
Despite the loss, strong efforts came from all experience levels, as senior Michaela Guild, juniors Chelsea Ross and Meg Dailey, sophomore Jenny Hinkle, and freshmen Courtney Dacheux and Sammy Greenwald all had solid times.
The Green and White veteran effort started with a second-place finish from Ross in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.57. That was followed with experienced distance swimmers Dailey and Guild who took part in the 500 and 1650, respectively. Dailey completed her distance in a time of 5:58.19, while Guild completed her mile in 18:46.28.
From there the youth took command. It all began with Dacheux who has proven an quality performer in just her freshman season. Her second-place time 25.94 in the 50-yard freestyle earned her squad points, as did her impressive 1:14.40 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the distance events, Hinkle completed her 1650 yards in a time of 19:22.64. Greenwald followed up with a 5:58.85 in the 500-yard freestyle, a time she was very excited to see.
The Green and White looks to continue to grow on "Pink Day", Friday December 2, at 6:00 pm against Salisbury and Goucher in the York College Natatorium.
