YORK, Pa. – The York College women's swimming team celebrated senior day Saturday afternoon at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center, but fell to visiting Ursinus 143-114. In their first competitive action since early December, the Green and White, who are now 5-7, put on an admirable performance as they are in the midst of their grueling winter training period.
The Spartans picked up a pair of individual triumphs Saturday as Michaela Guild and Anna Schuster notched victories. Guild, who is having a tremendous season in her junior year, won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:37.34. Schuster, a Spartan rookie, snagged the win in the 100 butterfly with a 1:04.65.
York would also tally seven second-place individual finishes on the day. Guild took the runner-up spot in the 200 free (2:04.53) while Schuster notched a second-place time of her own with a 26.82 in the 50 free.
Freshman Kelsie Pike finished second in two races with a 1:15.27 in the 100 breaststroke and a 2:41.23 in the 200 breaststroke.
Beverly took second in the 200 fly with a 2:28.42.
Both of York's relay squads, the 200 medley and the 200 freestyle, posted second place times. Murphy, Pike, Amanda Silcox, and Schuster combined for a 2:02.68 in the 200 medley while Kate Estes, Schuster, Guild, and Ross posted a 1:48.30.
The Spartans also recorded seven third-place times. Murphy notched a 2:23.68 in the 200 back while Ross timed a 26.98 in the 50 free. Rookie Jenny Hinkle posted an 11:50.83 in the 1,000 free while King's 2:31.90 in the 200 butterfly was good for third. Guild, Estes, and Beverly each took third in the 200 IM, 100 free, and 100 butterfly, respectively.
York returns to action on Friday, January 21, when they host Millersville in the 6:00 pm meet at the Grumbacher.
