Glessner Named NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region

YORK, PA –York College junior goalkeeper Melanie Glessner (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) has been selected as an NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region pick according to the organization earlier this week. Glessner earned third-team honors and was one of four Capital Athletic Conference players to earn the honors.

Glessner was outstanding for the Capital Athletic Conference champion Spartans. She was the CAC's first-team All-CAC goalie after another stellar year. The junior notched a 0.64 goals against average and a .864 save percentage. She recorded 70 saves on 193 shots faced.  Glessner went 11-4-3 with five full shutouts in her 20 games this year.

Four of the biggest saves of Glessner's career didn't even officially count as she made four stops in the CAC Tournament championship game penalty shootout win at Christopher Newport. Glessner's efforts lifted York to the PK win as the Spartans earned their second women's soccer tournament crown.

In the NCAA Tournament, Glessner shutout Carnegie Mellon in the opening round and took #6 Johns Hopkins into double overtime until a brilliant Blue Jay goal ended the Spartan season at 13-5-3.

Spartan head coach Vicki Sterner knows is pleased to see Glessner earn national accolades.

"Mel had a fantastic year and I am glad others see the quality of her play," says Sterner. "She continues to grow as a player and a leader. I am excited to have her back for another year."

Glessner's career has been an impressive one. She owns a 0.54 goals against average with a save percentage of .893. Glessner has 20 career shutouts and has been a part of six other clean sheets. She has played 3,523 career minutes in 43 games and accumulated 175 saves. Glessner owns a career record of 21-7-10. She was the 2012 NCAA Division III leader in save percentage while she finished second in the nation in goals against average.

Glessner leads a large core of returners for 2014. York is slated to return ten starters and all 13 of their top scorers.
