Glessner Named CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the Third Time
YORK, PA - York College sophomore goalie Melanie Glessner (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for a third time this year as the weekly award was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Glessner added two more shutouts to her historic season as the Spartans notched their sixth and seventh scoreless ties of the year. In the 0-0 tie with Catholic on Wednesday, Glessner notched a career-high 21 saves as she was peppered all game long by the Cardinals. She followed that up with three saves in the CAC first round tournament game against Wesley. Not only did she contribute defensively but she converted the game-saving fifth penalty shootout attempt as the Spartans eventually earned a 7-6 edge in penalty kicks to advance to the CAC semifinals.
Glessner remains ranked first in the NCAA in goals against average and save percentage. She extends her York College school record to 14 shutouts, one short of tying the Capital Athletic Conference single-season record.
