CARLISLE, Pa. – The York College women's soccer team lost to unbeaten Dickinson College 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The loss leaves the Spartans with a record of 2-1-2, while Dickinson is now 5-0.
The Red Devils scored early in the first half when Allie Young chipped in a goal at 14:25. The goal was the first to be scored on the Spartans this season, leaving their scoreless streak at 414:25. The school record scoreless streak to start the season is 490:30 set in 2005.
Dickinson came out strong in the first half and outshot the Green and White 8-3. The Spartans came out in the second half stronger, but could not seem to find the back of the net. Elizabeth Bunn (Lothian, Md./Calverton School) led the team with two shots, while six other Spartans each tallied one.
York goalkeeper Melanie Glessner (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) made six saves in the loss. The Red Devils goalkeeper Annie Weichert earned the win and also made six saves.
The Red Devils outshot the Spartans 14-8 and also held a 2-0 corner kick advantage.
The Green and White return to action Saturday at 2:30 pm when they travel to St. Mary's.
