Wrestling Closes Out Regular Season with 14th Win of the Season

GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College wrestling team closed out their 2016-17 regular season with a 28-12 road win at Gettysburg College on Friday evening at Bream Gymnasium.

The Spartans have won 25 straight in the series against the Bullets as York is now 35-5 all time against Gettysburg … The Bullets have not won a dual meet against York since 1992 … senior Ryan Flynn picked up his 33rd win of the year with the forfeit win as he is now 124-32 for his Spartan career … sophomore Greg Warner improved to 23-9 with his 11th major decision win of the year at 141 pounds … Warner fell behind early as Colin Devlin took him down but Warner came back with a reversal and a near-fall for an 8-2 lead … Warner pushed the lead to 12-2 with another near fall but Devlin reversed Warner and then rode the Spartan for the final three minutes of the match … Jeffrey Walker improved to 13-9 with his win at 149 pounds … junior David Keith earned his 12th win of the year with his first tech fall win of the year … sophomore Joe Sindoni improved his record to 14-7 with a tight 2-1 win at 174 … Sindoni got an early take down and rode Dan Ebert for over two minutes before Ebert rode out the final four minutes but couldn't get Sindoni's shoulders near the mat for any back points … Sindoni's last two dual meet matches have been 2-1 results as he dropped a 2-1 loss to #1 Ben Swarr in the dual meet against Messiah … sophomore Jesse Huber improved to 8-7 with his high-scoring 22-10 win at 184 … junior John Shorter improved to 21-6 with his 5-0 win at 197 … Shorter got a near fall in the first period then maintained the top position for the remainder of the match.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, February 25 when they begin competition in the NCAA Division III Mideast Championship tournament hosted by York at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The action kicks off at 11:00 am on Saturday.
