WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The York College wrestling team ended their stay at the Budd Whitehill Duals with a 30-15 win over RIT on Saturday in Williamsport, PA. The Spartans finished the tournament with a 2-2 mark.
York is now 5-7 overall while the Tigers are now 3-6 with the loss.
The Tigers got off to a great start in the match as they notched a tech fall at 125 and a decision at 133 to take an 8-0 lead over the Spartans.
York junior Joey Giaccio (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) got the Spartans on the board with a pin fall win at 141 as he put Jake Sepor on the his back in just 3:30.
The Tigers got a 6-0 win from Brad Mayville at 149 to push their lead to 11-6. York's Adam Kritzer (Herdon, Pa./Line Mountain) earned six points for the Green and White courtesy of a forfeit win at 157 pounds. The Tigers got their final weight class win of the match as Tory Cain recorded an 8-0 major decision win at 165.
The Spartans tied the match at 15 when freshman Tyler Rhoads (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) notched a 7-4 win at 174. York then took the lead when freshman Mitchell Ramsey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) recorded a forfeit win at 184 pounds. Fellow freshman Nick Zak (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) completed his perfect weekend with a pin fall victory over Wyatt Albanese in 3:56. Zak finished the tournament with a mark of 4-0 with two pins, a tech fall and an 8-1 win.
Sophomore Mike Spencer (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) closed out the victory with a 3-1 win in the heavyweight bout.
The Spartans travel to the Mid-Penn Duals hosted by Millersville University next Saturday. The duals are slated for a 9:00 am start.
