YORK, Pa. – The York College wrestling squad cruised to a 35-9 win over the visiting Lycoming Warriors on Thursday evening in the Spartans' 2012-13 home opener. The Spartans improve to 4-1 overall while the Warriors fall to 1-1.
Kenny Arentz (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) kicked off the match with an 11-0 major decision win at 125. Next up freshman Trevor Baez-Hernandez (Bendersville, Pa./Biglerville) recorded a pinfall win at 133-pounds. Chuck Glatz (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) wrestled at 141-pounds and finished the evening with a 4-2 decision as the Spartans sprinted out to a 13-0 lead.
Vinny Pisani (Orange, Ca./El Modena) had a strong match and won an 11-2 major decision at 149-pounds. In the 157-pound weight class for the Green and White, Drew Spector (West Deptford, N.J./ West Deptford) was able to earn a tight 6-5 win, upping the York lead to 20-0
The Spartans continued to wrestle strong with T.J. Demetrio (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) increased the York lead to 23-0.
Lycoming was able to get on the board when Jon Secor recorded a narrow 5-4 win at 174 pounds. The Warriors' Tyler Cunningham earned a pinfall win at 184 but the Spartans still led 23-9.
After the Warriors' pin, the Spartans came back with three of their own starting with Kyle Minogue (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) at 197. Minogue was able to pin Sam Batchelor in 1:57. Heavyweight freshman Mike Spencer (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pequannock Township) also earned a pin for the Spartans in 1:07 in the heavyweight division.
The Spartans return to action this Saturday as they travel to Painesville, Ohio for the Lake Erie Quad Meet. The action kicks off at 12:00 pm in Painesville, Ohio.
