How it Happened:
• After the first five minutes went scoreless, the Spartans scored twice in 35 seconds to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Melissa Meehling fed Kayleigh Phillips for York's first goal, and Meghan Fox doubled the advantage with 24:16 remaining in the opening half. Just under six minutes later. Fox scored her second of the game, pushing the lead to 3-0. The Red Devils got on the board with 14:07 left in the first, closing within 3-1, but another 30 second flurry opened the Spartan lead to 5-1. Fox and Regan Cook scored in that span. Fox, who has scored at least four goals in four games entering Friday's matchup, scored her fourth with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, and finished another game with four goals. Meehling added another before the break, as York took a 7-2 halftime lead.
• Cook, who scored 28 goals as a freshman last season in just 15 appearances, has started a bit slower statistically this year, however. She entered the game with six goals in six games, and then scored once in the first half. To open the second, though, Cook scored three times in the first 14 minutes, along with a goal from Phillips to blow open York's lead to 11-2. On two of her goals, she took passes from Meehling and Fox. Along with the high-powered offense, the York defense and Charlotte Wright held the Red Devil offense to little execution. With 10 minutes remaining, Wright faced 26 shots, with 11 of them on goal, making eight saves in the process. For the final 13:20, Abby Smith entered the game and held the Red Devils to just one goal. Another key statistic was the free-position attempts. York converted on eight of its 12 free-position shots, while Dickinson went just 2-for-14, a huge discrepancy. Caitlin Rankin scored twice in a 2:16 span in the second half of the second period, sealing a 13-4 win for the Spartans.
