YORK, PA – The York College women's lacrosse team earned their third straight NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament berth as the tournament field was announced by the NCAA on Sunday evening.
The Spartans, who finished second in the Capital Athletic Conference in the regular season and advanced the CAC title game for the third year in a row, earned an At-Large bid after finishing the season 14-4.
York will host St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon at Kinsley Field. The Cardinals won the Empire 8 Conference for the third consecutive year as Fisher enters the NCAA Tournament with a mark of 15-4. The Cardinals earned the automatic bid with a 6-3 win over top-seeded Ithaca in the title game on Saturday.
The home game for York marks the second consecutive year that the Green and White will have the opportunity to host a game. The Spartans knocked off Washington & Lee 13-6 last spring for their first ever NCAA Tournament victory.
The Cardinals dropped their NCAA Tournament game last May as they fell to RPI 13-8 in the opening round of the tournament.
Spartan head coach Jen Muston is pleased to be back in the tournament.
"We are so excited to have an opportunity to extend our season and play in the NCAA Tournament," states Muston. "It has been a goal of ours this year to get back to the tournament and have an opportunity to push the evelope even further than we have in the past. We will be working hard at practice this week to prepare, as it's one game at a time from here on out."
York is 1-2 all time in the NCAA Tournament while St. John Fisher has an overall NCAA Tournament mark of 2-4.
