GLENSIDE, Pa. – The York College women's lacrosse team bested host Arcadia 17-7 on Thursday as the Spartans picked up their ninth win of the season. With the victory, the Green and White improve to 9-2 on the season while the Knights drop to 2-5.
Sophomore attack Kim Wayson was at it again Thursday, notching four goals and two helpers to lead the Spartan offense. Wayson has now posted a team-leading 47 goals on the season.
Rookie Kerri Nicolich also recorded four goals for the Green and White as she and Wayson combined for nearly half of York's offensive output. Notably, both her and Wayson scored each of their four during the first half of the play.
That first half saw a flurry of offense as 16 goals were scored in the first 30 minutes. That Spartans proved the main beneficiaries of the that barrage as they tallied 14 times in the opening frame. Leading 4-2 with 20 minutes remaining in the first half, the Spartans went on a 10- run, which spanned just over 12 minutes, to take a comfortable 14-2 lead into the halftime break.
With such an advantage heading into the second stanza, the Spartans were able to cruise over the final 30 minutes of play before taking home the 17-7 victory.
Leah Schultz, who tallied a trio of scores for the Green and White, got the Spartans on the board first with her goal just 36 seconds into the game. Schultz now has 31 goals on the season, while she leads the team in draw controls with 35.
Defensively, the Green and White only allowed 13 shots throughout the 60 minutes of play while collecting 17 of the 25 draw controls.
York now turns their collective attention to this Saturday when they host Hood in a 12:00 pm Capital Athletic Conference contest.
