DATAW ISLAND, S.C. – The York College women's golf squad opened up the spring portion of their schedule with a strong second-place finish at the adidas Intercollegiate Invitational at the Dataw Island Club in Dataw Island, South Carolina.
The Spartans finished five strokes back of tournament champion Indiana Tech, an NAIA school. The Spartans shot a team score of 652 as they fired a 328 on Monday followed by a 324 on Tuesday. The 324 on Tuesday led the field of seven teams.
The Spartans were led by Jordan Koller as the freshman finished second with a two-day total of 155. Koller was two strokes back of Indiana Tech's Kim Siercks, the tournament champion. Koller shot an opening round 80 and made a five-shot improvement on Tuesday with a 75.
The Spartans placed three other players in the top seven. Freshman Brooke Burnette was York's next finisher as she placed fifth with a two-day total of 163. Burnette shot an 81 on Monday followed by an 82 on Tuesday. Freshmen Anna Moore and Shelby Tapman finished tied for sixth as they shot matching scores of 167. Moore shot 84 on Monday and 83 on Tuesday while Tapman flipped those scores with an 83 on Monday and an 84 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Emma Harding was York's fifth tournament participant as she shot a total of 181 as she finished tied for 20th. Harding shot 90 on Monday followed by a 91 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Lindsey Bonner played in the tournament as an individual and shot finished tied for 15th with a score of 176. Bonner shot a 90 on Monday followed by an 86 on Tuesday.
The Spartans return to action on Monday, April 1 when they travel to Clarkesville, Georgia to play in the Piedmont College Women's Spring Invitational at the Orchard Golf Club. The two day tournament kicks off at noon on Monday followed by Tuesday's second round at 9:00 am.
