MARY’S CITY, MD. – The York College women’s basketball team stifled St. Mary’s College, allowing just 15 made field goals in a 56-41 road win in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday. The win was York’s fifth in its last six games, and it pushed the Spartans to 7-2 in conference play. Beth Wiseley, Molly Day and Sam Mocniak finished in double figures as York played without a pair of starters due to illness.

The Spartans erased a 15-point first quarter deficit to take the lead in the second half behind Katie McGowan’s career-high 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to take down the 22nd-ranked team in the nation.

Three Spartans finished with at least 15 points as the Green and White limited the Wolverines to just 14-made field goals, while forcing 19 turnovers with suffocating defense. It is the third consecutive season that York captured its CAC opener.
