YORK, Pa. – The York College women's basketball team suffered their fifth straight loss on Wednesday evening, falling 75-68 to visiting Hood College in Capital Athletic Conference action. With the loss, the Spartans drop to 6-8 (3-3 CAC) on the year, while the Blazers improve to 6-7 (2-5 CAC).
The three-point line proved the story of the contest. York went a dismal 2-for-19 from beyond arc as they shot a season-worst 10.5% from three. On the other end of the spectrum, their guests shot 10-for-18 from deep including a 4-for-7 performance in the second stanza.
Hood's Allyson Lethbridge led all scorers with 20 points. Lethbridge shot a scalding 5-for-6 from three, 6-for-12 overall, during her 37 minutes of action.
Dyanna Prater also proved a thorn in York's collective side all night as she nearly registered a triple-double. Prater tallied 14 points, seven of which came from the free throw line, while notching 10 rebounds and distributing seven assists. She also posted a pair of steals over her 38 minutes.
York did jump out to a 14-5 lead to open the contest. However, that early advantage quickly turned into a deficit less than four minutes later at the 10:20 mark. Late in the half, the Blazers opened up a six-point lead, at 34-28 with 2:32 to go in the frame, and went into the break leading by one at 35-34.
The second half did see the Spartans nab the lead, owning a 43-41 advantage with 14:01 to play. Yet again however, that lead would not last. A Lethbridge triple, her third of the contest, sparked an 18-5 run that gave the Blazers a lead they would not give back. Over the next 8:23, Hood took a two-point deficit and turned it into an 11-point advantage.
The Blazers finished out the final 5:40 by going 10-for-14 from the free throw line to effectively ice the game and take home the 75-68 conference triumph.
Despite the loss, the Spartans tallied their most points in the last five contests and did see four players reach double-figures. Brittany Hicks, who is quickly becoming an outstanding collegiate player, notched 16 points on a solid 7-for-9 shooting performance. Fellow rookie Kristen Haley registered a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, including nine offensive boards. Jaimie Sapp and Jess Selby totaled 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Aside from the exploits of Lethbridge and Prater, Kelsey Knippenberg and Kameran Evans also posted double-digit scoring figures for Hood. Knippenberg posted 13 points while Evans chipped in with 11.
The Spartans will look to snap their five-game skid on Saturday, January 15, when they travel to CAC foe Salisbury. Tip-off from Salisbury, Md. is slated for 2:00 pm.
