Stephen LoBianco enters his third season at the helm of the Spartans after taking the reigns of the program in August of 2013. LoBianco had served as a Spartan assistant coach three years prior to him taking over the cross country and track & field programs.
LoBianco's 2010 inaugural season with the Spartan cross country squad proved a tremendous one as he saw Mandy Parshall capture York's first-ever individual conference championship in women's cross country. Additionally, he helped the Green and White to a pair of quality third-place team finishes at the annual Capital Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.
During year two, LoBianco helped mentor Tim Hartung and Steven Childres, as they went 1-2 at the CAC Championships as the Spartans earned their first ever Cross Country championship. Hartung continued his great season with a ninth place finish at NCAA regionals. LoBianco also helped guide Hartung to York’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships.
As year three progressed, LoBianco saw the Men’s Cross Country team win its second straight CAC Championships, with Hartung repeating as CAC individual champion. Hartung continued his success at NCAA Regionals where he placed fifth while helping the Men’s team to a program history high finish of 7th. LoBianco then helped coach Hartung to York’s first ever NCAA Cross Country All-American, as Hartung finished 7th at NCAA Cross Country Nationals.
In his first year as head coach, LoBianco has continued the success of the Cross Country program with many program firsts. For the third straight year, the Men’s Cross Country team were CAC Champions and Hartung captured his third straight individual title. The team went on to tie the program’s highest NCAA Regional finish with a seventh place finish, while for the first time in program history two athletes earned All-Region accolades. LoBianco was able to once again coach Hartung at nationals, where for the second year in a row he was able to become an NCAA Cross Country All-American with a 24th place finish.
On the women’s side, there were many firsts as well. LoBianco coached Caroline DeLany and Jess Miller, as they went 1-2 at the CAC championships for the first 1-2 finish in program history in 2013. The success continued after the Women’s team placed 8th at NCAA Regionals as a team, the first top ten finish in program history. LoBianco was able to see Miller receive All-Region accolades and be York’s first female cross country runner to compete at NCAA Cross Country Nationals. In 2014, Miller made her second straight NCAA Championship appearance after she finished second at the CAC championships for the second straight year. Miller earned All-Region accolades and was joined by DeLany on the all-region squad.
As an undergrad at Shippensburg University, he was a four-year varsity athlete in cross country and track & field. LoBianco is a 2007 graduate of Shippensburg University with a BS in Business Administration.
After college he continues to run and train for local road races and track meets. He recently completed his first marathon in 2:35.05.
