Spartans Prepare for CAC Cross Country Championships

YORK, Pa. – The York College men's and women's cross country teams look forward to the CAC Cross Country Championship this Saturday.  The Conference Championship will be hosted by Salisbury University at Winter Place Park at 11 a.m. for the women and 12 p.m. for the men.

The men enter the CAC Championships with high hopes, as they look to secure the dynasty title of a three-peat.  York has had much success so far this year, but the team will have to work hard with a big target on its back.

The Spartans will look to their upperclassmen leadership to lead the way against the 10 other conference foes.  The Spartan men will be lead by senior, two-time defending CAC Champion, Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa. / Governor Mifflin), who will look for his own three-peat performance.  Behind Hartung York is filled with great runners and experience.  To win their third championship York will look to be junior Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge), senior Aaron Robertson (Mohnton, Pa. / Governor Mifflin), junior Connor Simpson (Warminster, Pa. / William Tennent), junior Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Township), and senior Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa. / Northampton) to take the team to the top.

Coach LoBianco states, "This is one of the best teams that I have coached at York College and they have the potential to do great things at CACs and at the NCAA Regionals on 11/16, we just have to run smart and run our own race and we will accomplish our goals for the season."

The Women enter the CAC Championships, with revenge on their mind.  After missing first place last year by just 6 points to the University of Mary Washington.  With that memory in their minds, the women have been getting better throughout the year, and are planning for it to come together at the CAC meet.

The women will enter a team that is fairly young. The top seven consists mainly of freshmen and sophomores. To reach the their goals, the team will be looking to the upperclassmen of junior Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt), junior Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora), and junior Emily Abell (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) to lead the team.  Freshman Alicia Dillman (Leola, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) and Kasey Fogelsanger (Owings Mills, Md. / Mercy), will look to post strong performances to give York the edge.

The women will face stiff competition from Christopher Newport University and Mary Washington.  For the team to secure a championship, they have a few points that Coach LoBianco wants the girls to focus on.

Coach LoBianco explains, “Our girls need to work as a team and have the confidence in their training to go out and run with these teams. As far as individuals, 2012's CAC champion will be in the race this year, and we will be leaning on Jess (Miller) to step up and get it done."

The CAC Championships will be a great time for both teams.  More information on the event, including previews, course maps, and history, can be found at the CAC event page.
