NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The York College men's cross country team got ready for the Capital Athletic Conference championships with a second place finish at the 11-team Christopher Newport Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Newport News, VA. The Spartans accumulated 86 points as they finished well back of team champion Johns Hopkins.
The Spartans were once again paced by senior All-American Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) as he placed eighth in the 122-runner field. Hartung crossed the line in a time of 25:52.6. That was 52 seconds back of individual champion Max Robinson from Johns Hopkins.
Juniors Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) each recorded top-20 finishes as Stetson placed 19th with a time of 26:33.9 Murray was 20th as he was less than two seconds back of Stetson.
Senior Aaron Robertson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was the next Spartan to cross the line, as he placed 34th with a time of 26:56.5. Junior teammate Connor Simpson (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) finished three spots back of Robertson as he notched a time of 27:08.7. Senior Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) was York's sixth finisher, as he placed 40th with a time of 27:09.8.
The Spartans return to action in two weeks when they travel to Salisbury University to participate in the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference championships at Winter Park Place. The championship is set for an 11:00 am start.
