SALISBURY, MD – The York College men's cross country squad posted a very strong second place finish at the Salisbury University Don Cathcart Invitational at Winter Park Place on Saturday morning in Salisbury, MD.
The Spartans accrued 67 total points as they finished runner-up to East Stroudsburg. The Green and White nipped Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury by five points while Virginia Wesleyan finished a distant fourth with 153 points.
Senior All-American Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) ripped off a second place finish as he clocked in with a time of 25:13.0, finishing less than 12 seconds back of individual champion Chris Schneider of East Stroudsburg. Hartung's time was over 1:50 better than his winning time two weeks ago at the Achtzehn Classic.
Junior Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) had a strong race, as he placed 14th with a time of 26:24. His time was 1:10 better than his performance at the Achtzehn Classic. Freshman Matt Hayes (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) ran a strong race as he recorded a top-20 finish with his 17th place showing. Hayes traversed the course in a time of 26:27.60.
York had four runners record top 35 finishes in the 131-runner field. Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township), Aaron Robertson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin), Connor Simpson (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) showed well for the Green and White. Murray placed 27th with a time of 26:45.10 while Robertson was 12 seconds back of Murray in 29th place. Simpson rolled to a time of 27:01.20 as he placed 31st. Eppler covered the course in a time of 27:04.07, good for 33rd place.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to participate in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The event is slated for an 11:00 am start.
