Spartans tie for fourth place at the Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The York College men's cross country team opened their 2012 campaign Saturday morning at Shippensburg's Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge. The Spartans finished fifth of six varsity teams but approached the meet as more of a tune up heading into the regular season.

The Green and White's first finisher of the day was Aaron Robertson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) in 35th place with a time of 21:20. Next up for York was Connor Simpson (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) at 21:27, good for a 39th place showing. Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) crossed the line at 21:48 as he placed 49th. Freshman Carus Cookman (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) ran his first collegiate race and clocked in with a time of 21:51. Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) was the Spartans' final scorer as he notched a time of 22:00, good for 58th place among 128 participants.

The Spartans are set to compete again at John Rudy County Park in York, Pa. for the Rich Achtzehn Classic on September 15 at 11:00 am.
