YORK, PA – The York College men’s cross country team hosted the second of two York Invitationals during the 2009 campaign on Saturday. The Spartans took fourth place out of the seven teams who placed at John Rudy Park in York.
The Green and White, who averaged a time of 27:44.47, were paced by all-conference runner Matt Provonche (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright). The junior crossed the line at 27:26.38 to capture 18th place in the 96-participant race.
Freshman Steven Childres (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Saint Joseph), who is shaping up to be one of York’s best in just his rookie season, grabbed 23rd with a time of 27:39.14. Paul Wallace (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) finished two spots after Childres, posting a time of 27:44.24.
Ryan Janes (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and Andrew Friesma (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) registered 31st and 32nd for the Spartans. Janes recorded a 27:55.59 while Friema clocked a 27:56.98.
Johns Hopkins University won the meet, averaging 26:35.56 for the course. The Naval Academy’s “B” squad came in second while Franklin & Marshall nabbed third.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday as they travel to Reading, Pa for the Albright Invitational. Race time is set for 10:00 am.
