Spartans Finish 2009 with Strong Regional Meet
BETHLEHEM, PA – The York College men’s cross country
team put together a solid showing in their final meet of the
season, as the Spartans took 19th out of 45 teams at the 2009 NCAA
Mideast Regionals hosted by Lehigh.
York’s top finish came from Ryan Janes
(Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) who posted a
27:15.8. The Gaithersburg product took 91st out of 314 total
runners as he paced the Green and White.
Senior Jason Hinkle (York, Pa./Eastern York)
completes his Spartan career posting a top-100 finish in his final
collegiate cross-country race. Hinkle posted a 27:18.9 to come in
second within the Spartan ranks.
Junior Andrew Friesema (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico)
put in a solid performance as well, finishing 104th. Friesema
turned in a time of 27:25.6 to close out the 2009 campaign.
Fellow junior Matt Provonche (Churchville, Md./C. Milton
Wright) collected a 125th place time for the Green and
White, finishing the course in 27:40.7, while rookie Steven
Childres (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Saint Joseph) notched
140th in his first NCAA regional race. Childres turned in a 27:47.6
as his first year in a Spartan uniform proved exceptionally
promising for the future.
Patrick Lestrange (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills
Regional) and Paul Wallace (Denver,
Pa./Cocalico) rounded out the Spartan competitors.
Lestrange completed the race in 28:05.9, taking 151st, while
Wallace’s 28:33.2 gave him 173rd.
Despite the loss of current seniors Hinkle and Kevin
Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), the Spartans are set to
return much talent to next year’s squad as the future looks
bright for York cross country.
