FREDERICK, MD - The York College men's cross country squad picked up their third invitational team title of the 2009 season on Saturday besting 13 other schools in the Hood College Invitational.
The Spartans, who had five runners record top-15 times, averaged a team-time of 28:30.64 while totaling 2:22:33.20 for the 8,000 meter course.
Senior Ryan Janes (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) recorded York's top time of the meet crossing the line at 28:21.80, good for fourth place out of the 123-participant race. Janes' times gives him his first top finish for the Green and White this season.
Paul Wallace (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) ran to an seventh place spot for the Spartans, traversing the Heritage Farm Park course in a time of 28:29.21.
Freshman sensation Steven Childres (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Saint Joseph) collected his second top-ten invitational finish this season clocking in at 28:31.60. Teammate Andrew Friesema (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) finished just behind Childres, notching an eleventh place finish at 28:32.12.
Jason Hinkle (York, Pa./Eastern York), York's fifth runner to land in the top-15, crossed the finish line in 28:38.47 good for 13th overall.
Greg Bivona (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook Senior), who finished 21st for the Spartans on the soggy afternoon, ran to a 29:25.75.
York returns to action next Saturday, October 24, when they travel to Towson, Md. for the their annual dual meet with Goucher College. The Spartans will look to defend their 2008 win over the Gophers, as York has won each of the last seven duals between the two squads, with the meet beginning at 10:00 a.m.
