TOWSON, MD – The York College men’s and women’s cross country teams combined to defeat Goucher College in a unique mixed 10,000 meter run on Saturday in Towson, MD. The Spartans edged the Gophers 25-32 as the teams matched a male runner and a female runner that ran separate legs of the event with their combined time serving as their result.
The Spartans were led by the tandem of Ryan Janes (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and Tuesday Wilson (York, Pa./Eastern York) as they placed second with a combined time of 36:35. 36. They were followed by Andrew Friesema (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) and Corie Thompson (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) as they posted a team time of 27:16.38 which allowed them to finish third.
Jason Hinkle (York, Pa./Eastern York) and the reigning CAC Runner-of-the-Week Melody Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) combined to record a time of 37:50.27 as they placed fourth.
Goucher duos captured the fifth and sixth spots in the race while Paul Wallace (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) and Claudia Hess (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) finished seventh with a time of 38:23.27.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, November 7 when they compete at the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference championships hosted by Hood College at Heritage Farm Park in Frederick, MD. The championships kick off with the women’s championship at 10:00 am followed by the men’s championship at 11:00 am.
