Spartans Down Gophers in Relay Meet
YORK, PA – The York College men’s
and women’s cross country teams defeated Goucher College
Saturday morning 24-31 in a relay-style meet at nearby John Rudy
Park. This was the final tune-up for the Spartans before heading
into the Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday,
November 1.
The specialty event pitted six pairs of runners from each
institution, with each pair consisting of a male and female runner,
against one another in an effort to secure not only the team win
but the top pairs time as well.
The Spartans took the top two finishes in the meet as the duo of
Corie Thompson (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and
Bret Kilefner (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) combined to
record a time of 34:36 as they took first in the race.
Laura Colantuono (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley)
and Andrew Friesma (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico)
teamed up to clock a 35:52.
Goucher would go on to secure the next three spots before York
grabbed finishes six through eight. Terah Bloemer
(Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) and Patrick
Lestrange (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional)
registered a total time of 37:45 while the teams of Claudia
Hess (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) and Kevin Snyder
(Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), and Brittany MacFadden
(New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Javier Skwara
(Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) tabbed 37:59 and 38:27
respectively.
Anne McElwee (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and
Shane Lohss (Dover, Pa./Northeastern) finished out
the times for the green and white clocking in at 42:18.
The Spartans are set to travel to Fredericksburg, Va. next weekend
for the CAC Championships. Both the men’s and women’s
squads will be looking to best their third place finishes from a
year ago.
