SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The York College men's and women's track and field members hit high marks and took down four school records yesterday at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier meet hosted by Swarthmore College.
Senior Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) was one of three seniors to set a school record in yesterday's meet. Miller placed third in the 5000m run with a time of 17:31.08. Her time lowered her own school by 22 seconds and was just four seconds off the Capital Athletic Conference record. Miller's time is the fastest in the CAC this season and the 33rd-fastest in Division III.
Senior Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) also lowered a school record yesterday with a time of 4:51.61 in the 1500m run. The senior distance runner broke the old school record mark of 4:52.15 set in 2010. DeLany's time yesterday ranks as the fourth-best in the CAC this season.
DeLany holds three total school records, has been a seven-time all-conference track and field performer and has been a three-time CAC champion.
Senior Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Township) closed out his Spartan career with his second record-setting performance of the season. Murray recorded a time of 9:29.10 in the 3000m steeplechase, lowering his own school record time of 9:39.56 which he set earlier this season. Murray now holds the second-fastest time in the conference this season.
Sophomore Kasey Fogelsanger (Owings Mills, Md. / Mercy) also broke a school record as she recorded a time of 11:58.06 in the 3000m steeplechase. Fogelsanger's time lowered the old school record mark of 12:00.30 set in 2011. Her time ranks fourth in the CAC this season.
Fogelsanger now holds two school records as she helped set the school record in the indoor 4x800m relay with a time of 10:06.03 in 2014.
Four other Spartans competed at yesterday's meet and closed out what have been outstanding seasons for these four individuals.
Senior Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) placed 11th in the 5000m run with a season-best time of 15:04.81, which ranks second in the conference. Stetson has had a fantastic season in which he won two CAC championships, set a school record and a CAC championship meet record and produced a pair of All-CAC performances.
Junior Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro) battled through a competitive field of runners to place sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.15. Tillman finished as the second-highest Division III competitor in the event which featured a field of runners from all three collegiate divisions.
Tillman closed out a fantastic junior campaign in which he established three new school records, while his season-best time of 21.73 in the 200m ranks fourth in the CAC and 35th in the nation.
Junior Robert Doster (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown) placed sixth in the javelin throw yesterday with a distance of 172'-2". Doster won the CAC javelin title this season with a season-best throw of 192'-5" and currently ranks 22nd in the nation with that mark. Doster will wait to see if his throw will qualify him for the Division III Track & Field Championships on May 21-23 once all the meets prior to the championship meet have concluded.
Freshman Grant Dell (Westminster, Md. / North Carroll) put together a strong rookie campaign in his first year on campus and closed his season yesterday with a new personal record in the 5000m run with a time of 15:24.67. Dell took home a third place finish at the 2015 CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the 1500m run and finished just .05 seconds off the school record pace with that time.
