Spartans Perform Well at Two Meets on Saturday, Murray Sets New Steeplechase School Record

The York College men's track and field team placed ninth out of 20 teams at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Saturday and a number of Spartans also performed well at the highly competitive Bison Classic hosted by Bucknell University on Saturday.

Senior Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Township) had a banner day at Bucknell's Bison Classic in the 3000m steeplechase. Murray placed 11th and recorded a time of 9:39.56, which broke the old school record mark of 9:42.10 set back in 1985. Murray's time currently ranks him second in the Capital Athletic Conference and inside the top-40 in the nation.

At the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational, sophomore thrower Ian O'Brien (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland) performed at a high level as he placed fourth in the hammer throw with a new personal record of 147'11". O'Brien also set a new PR in the shot put with a throw of 40' 6.25". The sophomore currently owns the fifth best distance in hammer throw in the CAC.

Darien Gray (Bladensburg, Md. / Gonzaga) battled through tough wind conditions in Baltimore and managed to score points in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.30. Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro) also scored points for the team as he placed seventh in the 400m dash with at time of 51.01.

Darris Rodrigues (Palmerton, Pa. / Palmerton) set a new outdoor personal record and scored team points in the pole vault with a height of 12' 11.75".

Sophomore Andrew Tyris (Voorhees, N.J. / Brandywine) scored points team points with a seventh place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:25.25, good for a top-10 time in the CAC.

A number of Spartans had outstanding performances at the Bison Classic as well.

Grant Dell (Westminster, Md. / North Carroll) set a new personal record in the 1500m run with a time of 3:59.81.

Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) recorded a solid time of 15:09.79 and placed 25th in the 5000m invitational run.

Ryan Aug (Monmouth Junction, N.J. / South Brunswick) recorded a new personal best time of 15:45.01 in a competitive field of runners in the 5000m run. 

Senior Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa. / Northampton) set a new personal record in the 10,000m run as he recorded time of 33:18.97. Freshman Andy MacGibbon (Goffstown, N.H. / Goffstown) as set a new PR in the 10,000m with a time of 33:30.68.
