Men's Track Takes First at Collegeville Classic
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Friday afternoon featured another great meet for the York College men's track and field team. The men were able to show off their offseason of hard work and take home a first place finish.
In the sprints, Ryan Banta (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) tore up the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.35 to take seventh place. Banta followed up in the 200 with a time of 23.78. Darien Gray (Bladensburg, Md./Gonzaga), took seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.69. In the 400, Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) wrapped up the sprints with ninth place finish in the time of 53.47.
The 800-meter run was a massive showing of York's strength and depth. James Gonzales (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) led the Spartan contingent with a third place finishing time of 2:04.58 which was just 4 hundredths of a second behind the second place finishing time. Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) followed Gonzales and took fourth place with a time of 2:06.41. Taking fifth place in a time of 2:06.69 was junior Okera Beidleman (Germantown, Md./Northwest).
The distance events started with a great showing of Stetson taking third in the mile with a time of 4:33.56. Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) took first in the 3,000 with a time of 8:40.59 that was seven seconds faster than the second place finisher and also established a new Spartan school record.
In the field events, Drew Chowhan (Flanders, N.J./Roxbury) leaped to a third place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 12-5.5. Andrew Sarver (Olney, Md./Sherwood) jumped 19' 2.5" for a fifth place finish. Eddie Kraft (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) took first in the shot put with a massive toss of 45' 2.5" to secure the first place finish for York. Kraft's toss set a new school record, breaking the old mark of 43' 10.25".
York returns to action tomorrow at the Lebanon Valley Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College. Live Results can be found here.
