SALISBURY, MD – The York College men's track and field team stands four of five squads after day one of the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships at Salisbury University. The Spartans accumulated 17 points on day one of the championships.
The highlight for the Green and White came in the 10,000-meter race as junior standout Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) cruised to his second CAC championship in the event. Hartung won the event as a freshman and finished second as a sophomore.
Hartung notched a time of 34:26.34 as he won the race by over 14 seconds. Teammates Matt Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) also showed well in the race for the Spartans. Smith finished fourth with a time of 34:49.95 while Eppler clocked in with a time of 34:52.18, good for a fifth place finish.
The Spartans' Sean McGinley (Verona, N.J./Verona) had a solid showing in the javelin as the sophomore placed sixth with a best throw of 44.43 meters.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow for day two of the championships. The action is slated to kick off at 10:00 am in Salisbury.
