Spartans Compete at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. – The York College track and field team traveled to Johns Hopkins University on Saturday afternoon to compete in the Hopkins Loyola Invitational.

On the men's side, Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) started things off for the Spartans in the 5,000-meter run. Eppler was the top finisher for the Green and White with a time of 16:10.56 and in 16th place. Following close behind was teammate Matt Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) in 20th place with a time of 16:30.09. 

Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) continued to run strong in the 1,500. Stetson finished in 13th place with a time of 4:09.18. Aaron Robertson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) came in 25th with a time of 4:14.42.

The men's 1600-meter relay earned second place. The team of Sebastian Hall (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal), Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), John Follety (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) and Okera Beidleman (Germantown, Md./Northwest) ran a 3:45.58. 

In the sprints, Tillman recorded a 17th place finish in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 11.73. Beidleman finished the 400-meter dash in 54.46 for 13th place. The 200-meter dash saw Phillip Cavaluchi (Port Carbon, Pa./Pottsville) run a 23.76 for 16th. Follety and Beidlemen ran times of 24.51 and 24.86, respectively.

The Spartans had two runners compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) was the top finisher in fifth with a time of 10:28.73. Joseph Corrigan (Northport, N.Y/Northport) came in eighth with a time of 10:49.68. 

Alexander Palescandolo (Derwood, Md./Magruder) was the top finisher in throws. Palescandolo earned fifth place in the shot put with a heave of 12.67 meters. Eddie Kraft (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) finished in sixth with a throw of 12.58 meters. In ninth place was Abraham Alonzo (Severn, Md./Meade) with a distance of 12.29 meters.

Palescandolo also finished in 13th in the discus with a toss of 35.60. Abraham finished in 10th with a throw of 36.78 meters and Terez Beauford (Parkville, Md./Loch Raven) came in 11th throwing 35.65 meters. 

Kraft and Beauford finished in 10th and 12th during the hammer throw with heaves of 34.45 meters and 24.12 meters, respectively. Alex Aponte (Delran, N.J./Delran) came in ninth in the Javelin, recording a distance of 42.77 meters.

On the women's side, Bria Jones (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) was the Spartans top sprinter. Jones finished the 100-meter dash in 13.35 for a seventh place finish. 

Jenna Roberts (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) was the lone Spartan in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Roberts finished in seventh place with a time of 12:57.01.

In throws, Katie Shinn (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) took home a seventh place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.77 meters. Olivia Rehman (York, Pa./Central York) looked strong in the javelin with a heave of 34.29 meters for fourth place. She also had a ninth place finish in the discus with a toss of 31.01 meters. Kayleigh Dumas (East Granby, Conn./East Grandby) finished in the javelin in eighth with a distance of 29.99 meters. Abbey Rhodes (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) had a strong day in shot put. Rhodes finished in fifth with a throw of 10.85 meters. 

In the field, Laura Rowlands (Dover, Pa./Dover) finished strong for the Spartans. Rowlands came in second in the high jump with a distance of 1.60 meters. She also finished in sixth place in the long jump with a recorded distance of 5.02 meters.

Dana Mangano (Westminister, Md./Westminister) finished the day with a fourth place finish in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump. In the triple jump, Mangano recorded a distance of 10.49 meters and she jumped to 4.94 meters in the long jump. 

Pole vaulters, Bethany Miller (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Ashley Razzano (Wawa, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished the day in fourth and 10th place, respectively. Miller jumped to a height of 3.04 meters and Razzano jumped to 2.75 meters.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday at the Moravian Greyhound Invitational that begins at 9:00 am.
