York, Pa. – The York College men's track and field team finished fourth out of nine teams with a total of 104 points in their home meet, the Green & White Invite, on Saturday.
Lebanon Valley topped the men's side with a total of 145 points. Dickinson came in second with 129 points and Howard CC just ahead of York in third place with 105 points.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Ryan Banta (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge), Sean Welsh (Baltimore, Md./Parkville), Sebastian Hall (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) and Phillip Cavaluchi (Port Carbon, Pa./Pottsville) had one of the top Spartan finishes of the day. The relay team had a strong first place finish with a time of 43.23.
The other top Spartan finish came from Terez Beauford (Parkville, Md./Loch Raven). He recorded a solid throw of 38.74 meters for first place in the Javelin.
Other strong throwers throughout the day included Eddie Kraft (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), Sean McGinley (Verona, N.J./Verona) and Alonzo Abraham (Severn, Md./Meade). Kraft competed well in all of his events. He finished the hammer throw in fourth place with a heave of 38.56 meters. Kraft also recorded two fifth place finishes in the discus and the shot put, throwing 35.06 meters and 12.66 meters, respectively. McGinley earned a third place finish in the Javelin with a throw of 46.47 meters.
Also competing well in the field was Cavaluchi. He finished the long jump with a leap of 6.39 meters and in third place.
Welsh continued to be strong in the sprints. Welsh finished the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.02. He also finished in third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.80. Banta finished right behind Welsh in the 100 with a time of 11.40. Hall looked good in the 200 meters as well with a time of 23.44. Cavaluchi recorded a time of 23.69 and a ninth place finish.
In the 400-meter dash, Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) ran really well. Tillman earned fourth place with a time of 51.70. Behind Tillman in seventh place was John Follety (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) with a time of 53.24.
The top finish for distance runners came from Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) in the 5,000 meters. Murray came in third place with a time of 16:33.57. Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) was strong throughout the 1,500-meter run, finishing in fourth place with a time of 4:07.12.
The Spartans return to action on Friday for the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Invitational. The meet is set to start at 9:00 am.
