Cavaluchi, Feliciano Highlight York's Saturday at Duke; Spartans Also Compete at Goucher
DURHAM, N.C. – The York College men's track & field squad participated in a pair of meets Saturday afternoon. A number of Spartans competed at the 2012 Duke Invitational while the Green and White also competed at the Goucher Classic at Goucher College.
Phillip Cavaluchi continues his tremendous 2012 campaign as he had a tremendous showing in the long jump Saturday at Duke. The only Division III student-athlete to reach the finals, the Spartan junior took seventh overall with a 6.69-meter leap, besting several Division I student-athletes.
Freshman Wil Feliciano lowered his own program record in the 800 meters at Duke. A mark that had previously been on the Spartan books for 20 years, Feliciano establishes new record in the event for a second time this season. The rookie posted a 1:55.46 to rewrite his name in the Spartan record book.
Tim Hartung, just one day after setting a new Capital Athletic Conference record for the outdoor 5,000 meters, competed in the developmental 800 as a workout. Hartung posted a 2:04.89 in the event.
At the Goucher Classic, the Spartans finished sixth out of the 16 squads in attendance with 59 points.
Drew Chowan turned in a victory for York as he posted a triumphant 3.80-meter (12' 5.5") height in the pole vault. In just his first season with the Green and White Chowan has proven an exceptional performer in the event. Nicholas Paulovich nabbed second-place in the event as he posted a 3.55-meter (11' 7.75") result for the Spartans.
Thrower Marcus Bailey, who has seemed to hit a hot streak in the discus as of late, hurled a 41.43-meter (135' 11") distance as he took second overall in the event.
The hammer throw saw Kameron Wansel snag third as he recorded a launch 40.93 meters (134' 3") while rookie thrower Alex Palescandolo secured fourth in the shot put with a 12.84-meter (42' 1.5") result. Austin Dubos threw the discus 38.01 meters to secure seventh place. Alex Aponte also competed in the discus and registered a distance of 35.64 meters (116' 11").
Zach Rogers took fifth for the Green and White in the triple jump with a 12.46-meter (40' 10.5") trio of bounds.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, April 14, when they travel to Baltimore, Md. for the Johns Hopkins / Loyola Invitational. Meet time is slated for a 10:00 am start.
