Hartung Chosen the CAC Athlete of the Year in Men's Indoor Track & Field
YORK, Pa. – The York College men's track & field team received outstanding news on Tuesday as sophomore runner Tim Hartung was named the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Hartung picks up the first-ever CAC Athlete of the Year accolade in indoor track & field as this was the first year the conference sponsored a championship in the sport.
Hartung's honor came on the heels of capturing a pair of victories at the CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 19. The talented sophomore bested the field in both the mile and 5,000-meter events, running to school record times in both races. In the mile, Hartung posted a 4:22.53 while he nabbed 15:32.71 in the 5k.
In addition to his school record-setting marks in the mile and 5k, he also established a new program record in the 3,000 meters and distance medley relay. On February 26, the sophomore ran to a 8:42.11 in the 3k while he was part of York's record-setting DMR squad, combining with Steven Childres, Wil Feliciano, and Andrew Friesema to post a 10:45.02 on January 28.
Hartung has also won 2011 CAC Men's Cross Country title and the 10,000-meter championship at the 2011 CAC Outdoor Track & Field meet.
Hartung's selection marks the third Spartan who has captured league Athlete-of-the-Year honors. Childres was selected as the CAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year during the fall while men's basketball senior Paul Kouvaris was recently named the CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year.
