Spartans Take Green & White Invitational; Snag Eight Firsts

YORK, Pa. – The York College men's track & field team put together a tremendous performance Saturday as they won their own Green & White Invitational, recording 202 points on the day. The Spartans had a strong showing as they continue to prepare for the Capital Athletic Conference Championships, which are slated to take place at York, on Saturday, April 16.

The Spartans snagged eight first-place finishes on the day en route to their team victory. Senior hurdler Ben Edwards continued his consistently strong efforts as he was victorious in both the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. In the 110, Edwards crossed the line in 15.66 while taking the 400 with a 58.34. The talented senior teamed up with Gregory Gray, Chris Randise, and Le Von White in the 4x400 relay to also pick up the win with a 3:28.84.

Andrew Friesema picked up the win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 10:06.62 while Tim Hartung won the 5,000-meter event with a 15:48.78. Fellow rookie Craig Eppler was victorious in the 10,000 meters.

The 4x100 crew of Gray, Phillip Cavaluchi, Randise, and Christopher Camodeca collected the win for the Green and White.

In the throws, the Spartans went 1-2-3-4 in the javelin. Led by Cavaluchi's 47.15-meter winning toss, Zack Raywood took second while Nicholas Paulovich and Kameron Wansel came in third and fourth, respectively.

The hammer throw saw Raywood find the runner-up spot with a 37.89-meter heave while Marcus Bailey took third in the discus with a distance of 38.81 meters.

Cavaluchi also performed well in the long jump. The sophomore posted a 6.66-meter leap to take second while Jerry Bowers (6.50 meters) snagged third and Gray (6.40 meters) collected fourth.

In the pole vault, Zak Kriesmer registered a runner-up height of 3.95 meters while Zach Rogers was second in the high jump and Paul Kletzli was second in the 400 hurdles.

The triple jump saw Bowers take third with a distance of 12.40 meters while Rogers ended up fourth with a 12.26-meter result. Kletzli took third in the 110 hurdles and Steven Childres also snagged third in the 5,000 meters.

The Spartans return to action on Friday, April 8, when they travel to Grantham, Pa. for the two-day Messiah College Falcon Invitational. Friday's action is slated for 4:00 pm while Saturday is set for a 9:00 am start.
