JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The York College men's track & field team got their 2011 outdoor campaign underway at the two-day University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational. The Spartans gained quality experience going up against student-athletes from such programs as Florida State, West Virginia, and Pepperdine.
Freshman Randolph Patrice had a solid performance for the Green and White in his first collegiate outdoor meet. He snagged 22nd out of 58 finishers in the 200 meters with a 23.05 while taking 23rd in the 400 with a 52.28. Patrice also competed in the 100-meter dash.
Senior distance runner Andrew Friesema led the Spartans in the 1500-meter run as he posted a 4:15.69 to take 30th out of 82 finishers. Steven Childres recorded a 4:20.83 in the race while Tim Hartung clocked a 4:28.13.
Childres also competed in the 10,000 meters as he registered a 33:42.46.
Spartan rookie Greg Gray placed 15th in the long jump as he leapt to a distance of 6.07 meters.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, March 12, when they host the York Relays beginning at 10:00 am.
