SALISBURY, MD – The York College men's tennis squad dropped a 6-0 decision at Salisbury University in a Capital Athletic Conference match on Sunday. The match was played inside and played to decision and ended after the third singles match.
The Spartans fall to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the CAC while the Sea Gulls improve to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the league. The Sea Gulls are ranked 13th in the region.
The Sea Gulls opened the scoring by winning the third doubles match by a score of 8-0. The second doubles match was the next to finish with the Salisbury tandem of Ryan Santmyer and Matthew Ryan downing Lukas Olson and Ben Sentz 8-3. The Spartan duo of Joel Hess and Sam Innerst fell to Kelson Weber and Brad Pappalardo 8-4 in the first doubles match as the Sea Gulls took the 3-0 lead to singles play.
The Sea Gulls started the singles scoring as Stefan Hein defeated Innerst 6-2, 6-0 in the second singles match. Pappalardo downed Sentz 6-4, 6-2 in the first singles match and then Ryan defeated Hess 6-2, 6-0 to close out the match.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they host the University of Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The action is slated to start at 4:00 pm.
